World IKAT textiles symposium opens on December 3

(Upper right) Joel Arthur “Art” Tibaldo, Executive Director of Cultural and Natural Heritage Expression and Spaces explained his outfit and what textile material he used.

“This bedbed is made by Narda’s, I wore it to present at the upcoming World IKAT Textiles Symposium, and the Tinalak vest is a traditional garment of the T’Boli tribe from South Cotabato, Philippines but it is similar to abaca in Mt. Province. The T’boli people are renowned for their expertise in natural dyeing and weaving particularly using the “Narda’s technique,”

The T’boli community continues to pass down their traditional techniques through Apprenticeships, workshops, cultural festivals, and community-based tourism.
