Workshop for Baguio
Benguet teachers focused on student centered learningDepartment of Education – Cordillera OIC-Assistant Regional Director Florante E. Vergara underscored the need to always consider the learner when developing and quality-assuring modules.
In his speech during the second batch of the on-going Workshop on the development and quality assurance of quarter 3 self-learning modules for grades 4 to 12 Thursday, January 28, at the NEAPR at the DepEd regional office at Wangal, La Trinidad in Benguet.
Vergara said: “Our learners are like butterflies and we have to wait for our learners to unfold in their own time and way and we must have faith in their intrinsic value and the goodness of their higher self,…”.
During the second batch of the two set workshop for teachers of Grades 4 to 12, Vergara shared his take-aways from past engagements with education experts “like how we can be more centered to our learners and reimagine how we deliver education amidst the global health.”
He said that there are four key principles of student-centered learning. These are, he added: “Learning is personalized, learning is competency-based, learning happens anytime and anywhere, and student’s take ownership,…”
The workshops were done in two batches, with the first set of participants slated on January 19 until 22, and the second set on January 26-28.
The in house seminar under Regional Memorandum 07 series of 2021 signed by DepEd Cordillera director Estela Carino aims to ensure availability of quality assured Quarter 3 Self-Learning Modules for G4 – 12 and guarantee strict compliance of SLM development and contextualization with established LR standards and processes.
There were 52 participants from Baguio and Benguet for each batch who were lodged at the NEAPR dormitory of DepEd – Cordillera and were provided as well with meals and workshop kits.Carino’s memorandum assured that participants observed health and safety protocols.
Meanwhile, Carino also signed regional memorandum 20-2021 for the conduct of another workshop this time for technology and livelihood education teachers.
The seminar workshop is slated again at the NEAPR of the DepEd Cordillera office in Wangal, La Trinidad on February 2 – 4 and aims to ensure availability of quality assured Quarter 3 and 4 self learning modules in EPP / TLE for G4-12 and guarantee strict compliance of SLM development and contextualization with established LR standards and processes.
There will be 20 participants from Baguio and Benguet whose expertise are in teaching home economics, beauty and wellness, as well as masonry, carpentry and automotive, among others.
