Women’s’ Month online activities

BAGUIO CITY  – (6 March 2021) – Virtual activities are scheduled in celebration of Women’s Month this March.

The activities were agreed on during a steering committee meeting headed by City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty Fangasan, with the presence of Outstanding Women Leader (OWLs) president Emerita Fuerte, non-government organizations, office and agency representatives last week at the Senior Citizens Center.

As such, the ongoing search for OWLS which started Nov. 1 last year, nominee validation and panel interview up to March 12 and 13 is done online, with public recognition and awarding at City Hall on March 29.  The OWLs annual general membership, presentation and welcome of 2021 awardees on March 31 shall also be done online.       

For the whole month of March, the OWLS of Baguio scheduled online meetings/Webinars on women’s matters, issues on violence against women, and gender laws, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCOR) and interested individuals.

The Save Our Women group through OWL member Patti Gallardo Marcelo has webinars on domestic violence on March 10, 17, 24 and 31. The same group honors survivors of domestic violence online on March 8.

Women’s stories to ensure food security during the Covid-19 pandemic, an online forum through Zoom meet and Facebook live is also sponsored by Innabuyog.

For 350 senior high students, an online Zoom meeting dubbed “Womentor: Inspiring women inspire women,” is organized by JCI Baguio Sunflower in partnership with the University of Baguio, at 8:30 AM, on March 13.

On March 16, a Zoom forum on physical and mental wellbeing of women during the pandemic shall be done at the Holiday Inn, as sponsored by Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, Health Services Office, (HSO), Balikatan for KALIPI and other women leaders.

On March 17, a Webinar on the Data Privacy Act is scheduled by the OWLs Baguio, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for the general public.

Other Webinar/online meetings still to be finalized are: Women groups responding to the pandemic, workshop on social media, domestic violence, and “SALIMETMET” – a financial education online session.

Online and other activities for the 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration are anchored on the theme, “We make change work for women” and the subtheme: “Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kayang-kaya!”
