Vintage Bomb found in Sablan, Benguet
The Regional EOD and Canine Unit- Cordillera (RECU-COR) has implemented safety protocols for handling unexploded ordnance (UXO) found in Sitio Banao, Brgy Kamog, Sablan, Benguet on January 16, 2024.
According to the report from RECU-COR, they were informed by Sablan Municipal Police Station (MPS) regarding the discovery of a suspected UXO which was excavated by backhoe operators who were working on the road widening at the said barangay.
Upon verification, the operatives identified that the unearthed UXO was a 1,000 lbs General Purpose Bomb without fin assembly and in corroded condition.
After the assessment, the RECU-COR sprang into action to ensure the safety of the populace in the area prior to the transfer of the discovered UXO to the Firing Range in Clark Field, Pampanga for proper disposition.
With the help of the Sablan MPS, the community, and their expertise in handling such situations, the RECU-COR team was able to render safety procedures to neutralize the threat, leaving the community out of harm’s way. (PRO CORDILLERA PIO / File Photos)
