Urgent flushing of sewers at CBD, pushed

Mayor Benjamin Magalong  signed city council resolution no. 47, series of 2024, requesting all barangays within the central business district (CBD) area to coordinate with the Bureau of Fire Protection-Cordillera Administrative Region (BFP-CAR) and water delivery owners operating in the Summer Capital for the urgent flushing of sewers, canals, and other waterways at the CBD due to the ‘unbearable odor’ coming from these.

The measure stated that months have passed without rain in the city which often helps in the flushing of sewers, canals, and other waterways, and that discharging waste water and other discards are not properly managed by some business establishments.

“In the CBD area, there is an unbearable odor coming from these waterways and some establishments are even covering the opening of these just to ease the unbearable odor. The stinking stench of these waterways is a discomfiture to the city,” it stressed.

The resolution enjoined the barangays in the CBD to coordinate with the various establishments within the area for the flushing of waterways as part of their corporate social responsibility.

It also requested local water delivery owners and the BFP-CAR to help in the flushing of the waterways by delivering water during the flushing and cleaning of these at the CBD area. – Gaby B. Keith
