TRUTH OVER DECEIT: CONGRESSMAN MARK GO ANSWERS AGAINST SMEAR TACTICS

Dear Baguio Family,

It seems that as the 2025 elections approach, we are being attacked. Twisted narratives are emerging with the aim of destroying the integrity of my name, my office, and the work we do. Recently, posts and an “editorial” have falsely accused me of bribing media members, using government funds for my political gain, and badmouthing a public official.  These are all lies, and my dear Baguio family, you deserve the truth.

I was falsely accused of bribing the media and using government funds for my political gain.

On August 17, with my genuine desire to be grounded on concerns in our City, I invited broadcasters and journalists through the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC). For the past 8 years, we have had several press conferences to discuss our work in Congress and other legislative issues. Considering my full schedule that day, we opted not to conduct a formal press conference but simply have dinner. During the dinner, the closure of the Baguio Midland Courier was discussed along with the challenges the media are currently facing.

In response, I mentioned and encouraged them to apply for DSWD’s AKAP, as some of them may qualify. AKAP is a new program assisting Filipinos whose income is minimum wage and below, and who are affected by inflation and other economic impacts.  For efficiency, during the gathering, I asked my staff to gather initial information for DSWD. Only the DSWD can determine whether applicants are qualified, not myself or my office. Contrary to the claims of these posts – no money was handed out, no forms were distributed, and no promises were made.

The posts being circulated are not just personal attacks—but they undermine the people of Baguio and gravely insult the integrity of our media professionals. The defamatory posts belittle the media. This is wrong and spreading this false narrative is concerning.

For the past 8 years, we’ve supported our seniors, women’s groups, youth, persons with disabilities, indigent families, solo parents, fire victims, drivers, patients, displaced workers, and many more— without discrimination. Journalists and broadcasters were not given special treatment; they were simply guided toward a program they might qualify for.

The accusation that sharing information about government programs is an attempt to gain political favors is not only misguided but unfair. Public service is about responding to the needs of our constituents, especially in times of need, whoever they may be. We want to ensure everyone is informed about the resources available to them.  THIS IS NEVER FOR POLITICAL GAIN, BUT OUR DUTY TO THE PEOPLE WE SERVE.

I was falsely accused of speaking ill of another official and claimed that I declared my run for mayor.

For the last 8 years, you can observe that this type of behavior is not of my character – as a public servant and as a person. While I have been asked by several people, groups, and organizations to run for mayor, I have not made any decision at this time. My full focus remains on serving you as your Congressman. I have a lot to deliver for you and I am focused on doing just that. My actions are not for show. To me, not everything is about politics.

My priority is to genuinely serve and assist as many people as possible, with the highest level of integrity and compassion. My record speaks for itself—I do not engage in divisive politics or resort to underhanded tactics.

I will not be distracted by baseless accusations or political games. And I will not get tired of saying this to all of you, if you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to visit my office (Office of the Congressman – 2nd Floor, Baguio City Hall), and we will do our best to assist you.  I ask for your vigilance against these attacks, Baguio family. (PR)

Ang inyong lingkod,

Congressman Mark Go
