TESDA RTC Baguio inks MOA with CBSTC to empower more Filipinos in the land transport sector in CAR

LOAKAN-The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)Regional Training Center (RTC) Baguio and the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers in the Region. Present at the event were TESDA CAR Regional Director Jeffrey Ian C. Dy and CBSTC Chairman Jude G. Wal who finalized the agreement held during the CBSTC 3rd Anniversary, on October 29, 2021, which was witnessed by the RTC Baguio Center Administrator Felixberto B. Matute Jr., John Hay Management Corporation President and CEO  Allan R. Garcia, and CDA-CAR Regional Director Marieta P. Hwang.

“We, as TESDANS, are committed to develop highly skilled and internationally-competitive workers. With such, we strongly advocate active partnerships with industries and other stakeholders in the delivery of our programs. CBSTC had pro-actively responded to our advocacy,” said TESDA CAR Regional Director Jeffrey Ian C. Dy.

“We are already in the 4th industrial revolution and CBSTC is one of the ideal platforms to improve and enhance our training delivery through provision of modern training vehicles and facilities. In return, TESDA commits to provide the conduct of competency-based training and the conduct of TVET research and innovations in relation to the industry demand-driven solutions for the transportation sector,” Dir. Dy added.

Meanwhile, the CBSTC is a pioneer transport cooperative in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) that advocates the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) through the utilization of new technologies in the sector.

Under the MOA, CBSTC adheres to developing expertise and enhancing skills of its driver’s workers, operate adequate facilities and services of its members, and believes in the competence of the training center in promoting the Dual Training System.

Also, TESDA RTC Baguio and CBSTC will develop and implement a functional collaboration on provisions of skills training, sharing of training sites and facilities, on-the-job-training, competency assessment, and employment facilitation in the sectors of automotive and land transport, electrical and electronics, and metals and engineering- that will mutually benefit the trainees, graduates, and employees of RTC Baguio and CBSTC.

According to Jude Wal, the effectiveness and efficiency of Public Transportation are important in the Nation’s Economy.

“Partnering with TESDA RTC BAGUIO is very timely and very important. Their programs are very much appropriate in our sector,” he added.

The RTC Administrator Mr. Felixberto Jun Matute said that they will be developing the Implementing Guidelines of the MOA this year and it will be in full operation by next year.

“As much as possible we are targeting to train all members of the cooperative of CBSTC here in CAR by next year,” he added.

As agreed, the CBSTC will also donate engine mock-ups for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 that will be utilized by their trainees.

Also present during the 3rd Anniversary of CBSTC are different members and representatives of CBSTC branches from the different provinces of CAR.
