SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ONLINE APPLICATION
SSS MATTERS (Christian Andrew Rillorta – Columnist)
Each member is identified thru their Social Security (SS) number. SS number is uniquely assigned to each member upon their registration with the System. Prior to digitalization phase of SSS, each soon to be member who applies for SSS is required to fill out a Registration Form and attach several documents such as valid IDs and birth certificate.
Currently, SS number application can now be done via online at www.sss.gov.ph. You may register to SSS and generate an SS number even at the comfort of your home or office.
Clicking the “Apply for an SS Number Online” menu found at the lower portion of the site will direct you to fill out your Personal Records like name, birthday and active email address. You will also be asked to choose how you would like to register your name. Once submitted, a link will be forwarded to your personal registered email address to continue the application process and an option to upload your supporting documents like birth certificate or baptismal certificate. A limited file size of 3MB is required to upload the documents.
You are given 5 days to continue your application otherwise the link will be disabled, and you must repeat the process.
It is important to review all the information you have given and documents you have uploaded. Once the “Generate SS Number” button is clicked, automatically your SS Number, Personal Record, SS Transaction Number Slip and SS Number Slip will be shown on the screen which you may print or download.
If you opted to submit your supporting documents over the counter at any SSS branch, you will remain tagged as temporary. Once all documents are submitted, your category will be changed to permanent. Members tagged as temporary may start to pay contributions but cannot avail of any benefits and loans yet.
For those applying for a job, it is a must to present your SS number to your employer as this is one of the requirements during pre-employment process. One thing I always tell the public or to job seekers is that if your hiring employer do not ask for your SS number, that is a red flag. It may mean that they have no plan in paying for your SS contribution.
The SS number assigned to you will be your perpetual number. You don’t need to get another number every time you transfer from one work to another or from one membership category to another (Voluntary to Self Employed to Employed or OFW member). Any contributions made under that SS number will be recorded and will be used to compute benefits and or loan proceeds should a member avail one.
