MANILA – SM Prime Holdings Inc., one of the leading integrated property developers in Southeast Asia, brought to life the company’s long-running commitment to sustainability with the internal launch of its #SMWasteFreeFuture program on April 22, 20224, at the SM Prime Headquarters Office, Pasay City, in time to also celebrate Earth Day.

The launch brought together employees from SM Prime housed under its new headquarters as well as employees from its primary residences SMDC in Two ECom, and its hotels and convention center in One Ecom, and broadcasted live to the SM Supermall employees nationwide.

Entitled “Re-thinking Our Relationship with Waste,” the internal event aimed to reach critical elements of the employee experience when it comes to waste segregation and waste management by taking a deeper look at how we create better individual habits. Anchored on the Theory of Change, the internal launch reinforces that the right habits create the right response, and the positive consequences follow suit.

Sustainability Champion and SMEDD President Hans “Chico” T. Sy, Jr. emphasized that the biggest value of the #SMWasteFreeFuture lies in creating the right call to action, by encouraging the SM community to take part in this journey.

“The #SMWasteFreeFuture Program is not solely about technology. It represents a fundamental shift in our approach to waste management. It’s about changing our mindset and behavior towards waste, and implementing the right intervention that can encourage the behavioral change that we need,” he said.

Experts and advocates were invited to give a short session, starting with Ms. Rea Villa of Mind You on creating better habits, Ms. Willie Garcia of JunkNot shared her story on how she uses her art to help the environment, and Ms. Antoinette Taus of Cora brings it home by engaging the hearts and minds present through education and her rendition of the song, Heal the World.

Under one umbrella, the #SMWasteFreeFuture is the company’s new waste strategy to encourage green practices in resource management, environmental impact, and most importantly, the social well-being of a waste-free Philippines.

SM Prime remains committed to its role as a catalyst for economic growth, delivering innovative and sustainable lifestyle cities, thereby enriching the quality of life of millions of people.

SM Prime is pursuing the next horizon on integrated property development and onward to building sustainable cities of the future.  #SMWasteFreeFuture will be implemented across all SM Prime companies nationwide. (PR)
