Shelved Carantes St. project resumes with new contractor
The Perfecto-Carantes St. development project has resumed under a new contractor months after the project was halted due to the previous contractor’s default.
The City Engineering Office announced the development through an advisory on the closure of the street starting Aug. 30, 2023 to give way to the resumption of the project envisioned to develop Carantes St. and a portion of Perfecto St. as streetscape or shared street.
The CEO said the new contractor was awarded the project after winning the rebidding process undertaken to continue the project which was halted on Dec. 13, 2022.
The project contract was terminated after the contractor failed to deliver the desired output and accomplish the project as per approved program of work.
It took time to appoint a new contractor due to the requirements and processes that need to be observed and fulfilled, according to the CEO.
The CEO said the project underwent comprehensive assessment, redesign and rebidding.
Earlier, the city government apologized for the incovenience caused by the project’s shelving to the public.
With the road’s closure, gated access along Lower Mabini and Perfecto St. entry way will be maintained for constituent ls and establishments with parking and businesses in the area.
Pedestrians were advised to take Harrison Rd. and Session Rd. as alternate routes while the project is ongoing for their safety and security. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
