Science Olympiad gold medalist cited
City officials recently commended and congratulated Justin Adriel Apuntar of Saint Louis University (SLU) for winning the gold medal in the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO) last June 11, 2023.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the local government congratulates and commends Apuntar’s achievement that has brought honor and pride to the city which has proven yet again that the country’s undisputed Summer Capital is the education center of the north.
The HKISO is an international science competition held annually around the world.
Further, the said competition is for students from Grade 2 to Grade 12 that strictly follows the Hong Kong school science syllabus and tests what students have learned on their level of content.
The competition allows participants to be prepared in different categories to know their strengths and weaknesses for better preparation.
Apuntar, a Grade 12 student of SLU, bagged the gold medal with over 48 contenders under the senior secondary category.
The council claimed that despite the circumstances, struggling to prepare and review due to his insufficient time juggling academic and personal responsibilities, he emerged victorious in the said competition.
Winners for HKISO heat round can have a chance to work with participants from different regions to try out some experiments all together in Singapore or Hong Kong alternatively.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the deserving student and the SLU administration for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
