Schools with NSTP urged to partner with city on environmental protection programs
The city government requests all higher education institutions (HEIs) Implementing the National Service Training Program-Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWTS) to partner with the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) in their environmental protection-related programs.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong approved Resolution No. 123 series of 2023 proposed by then Senior Citizen Official For-a-Day (SCOFAD) Councilor Thelma Kim for this purpose.
Several universities and colleges include NSTP training in their curricula as a requirement for passing the course. The CWTS is the most common service that is religiously implemented in Baguio schools in a bid to improve the general welfare and quality of life for community members and the environment.
Kim said that in the implementation of the program, the students are tasked to conduct their civic services in parks and other areas of concern but such “activities are not well-sustained because the (HEIs) do not have an established area to implement such a program.”
She said the city through the CEPMO could provide the students with feasible areas like parks and other city-owned open areas.
The HEIs should then collaborate with the CEPMO to access these city-owned lands and public locations. – Manette Sky Agbunag
