Put up of truck weigh station along Palispis-Aspiras Highway reiterated

City officials recently reiterated the installation of the so-called truck weigh station along the Palispis-Aspiras Highway, formerly Marcos Highway, and in other road entries to the city for the protection of roads and safety of road users by the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR).
Under Resolution No. 358, series of 2023, local legislators stated that the load capacity of trucks traversing entry roads to the city must be checked and monitored at all times for safer travel and to preserve the integrity of the road pavements and facilities.
Earlier, the council passed two resolutions in relation to the proposed installation of a weigh station along this highway.
Among these local legislations include Resolution No. 415, series of 2020 requesting the DPWH through its regional offices, DPWH-CAR and DPWH Region I, to look into the installation of truck weigh stations along the Palispis-Aspiras highway for road structural, vehicular and road users’ safety purposes and Resolution No. 211, series of 2021 reiterating Resolution No. 415, series of 2020.
The council claimed that overloaded trucks imperil road and vehicular safety, and is one of the major causes of road accidents resulting to destruction of properties and loss of lives, thus, the need for concerned government agencies to immediately work out the put up of the proposed truck weigh station in strategic portions of roads leading to the city to ensure that there will be no overloaded trucks passing through these roads.
The proposed truck weigh station is similar to the weighbridge that had been installed by the DPWH along the Baguio-Bauang Road, also known as the Naguilian Road.
Copies of the approved resolution will be forwarded to the DPWH-CAR for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
