PUJs cooperation sought to ensure smooth transport for school opening
The city government has sought the cooperation of the different public utility jeepney (PUJ) associations in the city to ensure a smooth and orderly transport system for the opening of face-to-face classes starting August 22.
In a meeting last Aug. 17, the Traffic and Transport Technical Working Group led by the City Engineering Office-Traffic and Transportation Management Division under Engr. Januario Borillo and the Baguio City Police Office Traffic Enforcement Unit under PLt. Col. Roldan Cabatan reminded the jeepney groups that the mission is to ferry the students and the riding public safely and on time in going to and from their schools and destinations.
To ensure that enough units are plying the routes, the associations can field in the maximum number of their units but they were reminded on their responsibility to serve their lines until 10 pm as required under the city’s ordinance and to ensure orderly pick-up routines to avoid traffic congestions and ensure fair passenger distribution among the units.
The associations were also urged to maintain order and ensure observance of health and safety protocols at their staging terminals and to adhere to the agreed pick-up time limit while on mobile to avoid delays and ensure continued availability of units in staging areas.
They said plans are afoot to designate fixed passenger loading and unloading points in each route to lessen stop offs that contribute to traffic.
The TWG had earlier engaged with the different schools addressing issues on loading and unloading areas.
“We need your cooperation to ensure the well-being of our students and the riding public,” the TWG appealed. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
