Publication of traffic schemes sought
City officials urged the Traffic and Transportation Management Division under the City Engineering office to publish all traffic re-routing schemes and/or road closures in the city two weeks prior to their implementation for the information of the general public.
Under Resolution No. 453, series of 2022, local legislators stated that pursuant to Ordinance No. 21, series of 2011 which provided for the guidelines in the conduct of the traffic experiments in the city, massive information on the proposed traffic experimental schemes shall be informed to the concerned public not less than 2 weeks before the implementation of the experiment.
In the past months, the council disclosed that there were traffic re-routing schemes and/or road closures implemented in the different areas of the city by the TTMD-CEO that caused confusion to motorists due to lack of proper public notices and information on the said road activities or projects which contributed to more traffic congestions in the city.
While it is true that the traffic re-routing schemes are geared towards identifying the most feasible traffic scheme that will be implemented to ease the worsening traffic congestions around the city, the body pointed out that it is best for the concerned offices of the local government to first conduct a massive information and education campaign to guide the public on the alternate routes that will be available for them not to be caught in traffic.
The council tasked the concerned offices to also submit a detailed report on the outcome of the traffic re-routing schemes and/or road closures for the local legislative body to be appraised on the outcome of the said experiments.
Under the aforesaid ordinance, the implementation of traffic experiments shall last for a maximum of 60 days prior to the reversion of the said schemes to their original state. – Dexter A. See
