PRO CAR’s PRESS Statement on the recent shooting incident in Pilar, Abra
In response to the recent shooting incident, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region, immediately conducted an on-site assessment of the deployed personnel in Sitio Palicad, Brgy. Poblacion, Pilar, Abra, on March 2, 2025.
PBGEN PEREDO, JR. was joined by PCOL JULIO S LIZARDO, the Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PCOL LEDON D MONTE, PCOL DAMIAN D OLSIM, the Chief of the Regional Intelligence Division, and PCOL GILBERT A FATI-IG, Acting Provincial Director of the Abra PPO.
During the visit, PCOL FATI-IG briefed the Regional Director on the incident. Subsequently, PBGEN PEREDO, JR. conducted a thorough assessment of the perimeter and issued a directive for heightened alertness. The Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO CAR) strongly condemns the shooting incident that targeted the convoy of a mayoralty candidate in Pilar, Abra, on February 28, 2025. This violent attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and left one individual wounded, is a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the peace we strive to uphold in the region.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and assure the public that we are fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. An extensive investigation is already underway, with our dedicated personnel working tirelessly to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
We call on the people of Abra to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement authorities. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is urged to come forward. Rest assured that the full force of the law will be applied to ensure accountability and prevent further violence, especially as we approach the election season.
