A Parklea Correctional Centre Provides Jump Start to a New Life, A pride of Lions is helping Parklea Correctional Centre as private prison to ensure inmates leave prison with suitable clothing to wear. IPP Rissa McInnes-President.
The Blacktown Ponds Lion Club has donated warm jumpers to Parklea, helping the center replenish its stocks.
Governor Paul Baker says men sometimes left the center in prison greens, which meant they faced judgment and prejudice as soon as they re-entered the community.
“Not all of our inmates have a good support system when they leave prison, and as part of Parklea’s ethos of treating inmates with decency and respect we want to give them the best start possible,”
Governor Baker says. “Our Throughcare program ensures inmates are set up with the things we take for granted, such as personal items and assistance with services, before they re-enter the community to help them cope with life on the outside to reduce their risk of reoffending and returning to prison.
“Having new clothing appropriate to the season and for things like job interviews makes a huge difference to a person’s confidence and how they are perceived.”
The significant donation of clothing Parklea received in July from IPP Rissa McInnes President of Blacktown Ponds Lions Club and not-for-profit Good360 Australia has been given to inmates.,
