BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, March 20 (PIA) – A Packing Center for organic farmers in Kayapa town will be built this year with the assistance of the provincial government and private agencies.

Governor Carlos Padilla recently handed a check worth more than Php2.9 million to the Kayapa Organic Producers Association Inc. (KOPAI).

The Packing Center project is also supported by the CE Casecnan Water and Energy (CECWE) with more than Php2 million and First Gen Hydro Power Corporation (FGHPC) with more than P800,000 funding assistance.

A ground breaking program for the project was also conducted led by the governor and local government unit officials of Kayapa led by Mayor Elizabeth Balasya.

“This will help our organic farmers in Kayapa in properly packing their products to be sold in various outlets. This will raise the value and quality of their products,” he said.

KOPAI has more than 35 members who are engaged in organic vegetable farming in barangays Buyasyas, Amelong Labeng, Dalikepkep, Proper East, Pangawan and other nearby villages.

Padilla said the Organic Packing Center was conceived in 2019 to help organic farmers in Kayapa in improving the quality of their products.

He added that the project will also address the concern of the organic farmers on the need for post – harvest facilities for their products.

Kayapa is the major center of organic farming in the province which is also supported by the Department of Agriculture (DA), among other agencies.

Mayor Elizabeth Balasya said the PLGU assistance will raise the economic life of organic farmers in the municipality.(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
