MRF-cum-E-waste facility inaugurated in Bakakeng Central

A materials recovery facility-cum-electronic waste facility was inaugurated last Sept. 25, 2023 at Bakakeng Central barangay to serve not only as a model for responsible waste management but also as a hub for recycling and proper disposal of electronic wastes.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong, together with partners from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Ecological Waste Coalition Philippines, Integrated Recycling Industries Inc., PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications Inc. led the ribbon cutting of the facility.
The mayor said the facility is a big help as the city continues to contend with waste management challenges which now include e-wastes which are now a growing global concern and to promote beneficial concepts like circular economy.
“By recycling and managing e-waste properly, we are not only protecting our environment but also contributing to the circular economy and the well-being of our future generations,” the mayor said.
Magalong thanked the partner agencies and groups represented by DENR Usec. Atty. Analiza Teh, DENR Usec. Atty. Jonas Leones, EMB Asec. Gilbert Gonzales, DENR-CAR Regional Director Engr. Ralph Pablo, UNIDO National Project Manager Leah Texon, and UNIDO Project Manager Dr. Carmela Centeno for their unwavering support and dedication to the project.
“The City of Baguio is proud to be a part of this partnership, and we are fully committed to ensuring the success of this initiative,” the mayor said. – Mileyvonne Tiamzon
