More persons, groups volunteer for city’s response program

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) under Antonette Anaban disclosed that more than 100 individuals  and nine groups have submitted applications signifying their intention and willingness to become disaster volunteers as of the third quarter of this year.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer 3 Louie Glen Lardizabal said his office started processing the accreditation of the city’s disaster volunteers — individuals and groups — earlier this year.

“We are currently collecting all of the data needed to process their accreditation so that they can be given the proper support in case they are going to be helping us in future emergencies, crises, or disasters that may befall the city,” he said.

These volunteers will serve as additional forces or force multipliers during times of hazards or emergencies, Lardizabal added.

He said all those wanting to become volunteers, no matter what their stations in life may be, could register for accreditation at cdrrmovmo@gmail.com.

A volunteer must be a Baguio resident and not below 18 years of age. Those who fall under the 18 to 21 bracket must have parental consent.

The CDRRMO does not accept students currently enrolled in school. Independent and working individuals can register as volunteers, Lardizabal said.

The city government, thru the CDRRM Council, has also updated the Summer Capital’s contingency plans on earthquake, hydro meteorological hazards and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. – Gaby B. Keith
