Mayor Magalong reminds public to keep city clean

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong is reminding tourists and visitors trekking to the Summer Capital for this year’s Baguio Flower Festival or ‘Panagbenga’ to dispose of their trash in a proper manner and not just throw these anywhere to maintain the city’s clean surroundings.

“Nandiyan naman po iyong mga trash bins, diyan nyo po ilagay at huwag lang sa tabi o kung saan-saan itinatapon. Talagang maghihigpit po kami tungkol dito,” the Mayor warned.

He disclosed that many individuals have already been caught improperly disposing of their thrash by authorities and that around 90 percent of these were tourists.

The city’s anti-littering ordinance makes it unlawful for any person to throw any kind of garbage in public spaces, among others, and provides the appropriate fines or penalties for its violation.

In 1995, Baguio garnered the “Hall of Fame” award in the nationwide Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City after winning for three consecutive years.
