Marriage registration in city up by 26.74 percent
The Local Civil Registry Office disclosed that marriage registration in the city for the first quarter this year significantly increased by 26.74 percent compared to the marriages that were recorded by the said office during the same period last year.
Local Civil Registrar Luz Perez stated that marriage registration for the first quarter of this year was 100 registrations more than the 374 registered by the office during the first quarter of 2021.
She claimed that of the total number of registered marriages in the city, during the first quarter of this year, church rites registered the highest percentage which was 57.38 percent.
On the other hand, the local civil registrar revealed that marriage applications received by the said office during the first quarter of the year totaled 345 which increased by 25.45 percent compared to the marriage applications that were registered during the same period last year.
According to her, the civil registration and vital statistics system are systems that produce births, deaths, and causes of death information, which are one of the fundamental strategic importance for the country’s development process and governance.
She explained that the same is also considered the gold standard of health information in the country, especially during the prevailing Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 pandemic, where vital statistics played a crucial role in accurate and timely decision-making of officials.
Moreover, Perez emphasized that civil registration contributes in many ways to the normal functioning of society because if a country deems it important to improve family organizations in order to guarantee social order; to guarantee human rights; to promote public health and to make available better information on which to base development planning, it should consider improvement of civil registration an important and pressing matter. – Dexter A.
