Market fire victims receive educational assistance, relief goods
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) under Liza Bulayungan is currently interviewing and assessing victims of the recent fire that occurred at the public market if they are eligible to receive educational assistance for their children presently enrolled in school.
The offices of Senators Christopher ‘Bong’ Go and Robin Padilla provided funds for the educational assistance channeled through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to help around 1,410 market entrepreneurs affected by the conflagration based on a list provided by the City Treasury Office.
Bulayungan disclosed that the assistance shall only be provided to one child per household and that the amount will depend on whether the child is in the elementary, high school, or college level.
“After the thorough assessments are done, then we will submit all these forms to the DSWD for processing purposes. The financial assistance for the education of their children or ‘kapamilya’ will then be released immediately,” she said.
Those who applied for the assistance were asked to bring the following: Certificate of enrollment, photocopy of school identification card, and valid identification card of parent or guardian.
Alongside the conduct of the educational assistance assessment, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) also held a relief operation at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center (BCCC) aimed at helping the market fire victims where 1,500 boxes of relief goods were distributed. – Joshua Walitang
