Makabayan Coalition to Hold Historic Miting de Avance in the Cordillera, Challenges the “Solid North” Narrative

BAGUIO CITY – In a powerful assertion of people’s politics in the north, the Koalisyong Makabayan is set to stage a historic Miting de Avance on April 26, 2025, right at the heart of the Cordillera. Bringing together a formidable slate of 11 progressive senatorial candidates and leading partylist groups, the event will unite grassroots delegations from across the Cordillera provinces and Northern Luzon in a bold challenge to the long-standing “Solid North” political stronghold.

More than a political rally, this gathering is a platform for the voices that traditional politics has long ignored—workers, farmers, indigenous peoples, youth, and everyday citizens—to demand urgent action, genuine representation, and meaningful change amid deepening economic hardship and political unrest.

Martsa ng Makabayan: The North Takes the Streets

The day’s events will kick off with the Martsa ng Makabayan, a vibrant march symbolizing unity across the northern region. Starting at 12:30 PM, participants will assemble at T. Alonzo Street, with delegations from the different provinces of the Cordillera and Northern Luzon marching together along Magsaysay Avenue and Session Road.

Colorful banners, rhythmic chants, and cultural performances will fill the streets, amplifying the Cordillera People’s Agenda for Election 2025—which calls for just wages, lower prices of goods, the defense of ancestral lands, and the protection of human and indigenous rights.

LABAN AMIANAN! IYABANTE TI BARO A POLITIKA: Miting de Avance in the Cordillera

The march culminates at the historic Malcolm Square (People’s Park), where the Miting de Avance program begins at 2:00 PM. The rally will feature fiery speeches from Makabayan’s senatorial candidates and partylist representatives, alongside local officials and community leaders who are part of the growing movement for change in the North.

The program will also highlight cultural resistance through music and art, with performances from local and national artists.

Media coverage is warmly welcomed and encouraged. Interview opportunities with senatorial candidates, partylist representatives, and regional leaders will be available throughout the day’s activities. We are also inviting media outlets to provide live online coverage of the event. Please contact us in advance so we can coordinate and grant access for livestreaming arrangements. ###
