Kalinga Top COP pushes for Betwagan-Butbut peace negotiation
Seeking for the restoration of peace between the two tribes of Betwagan and Bugnay-Butbut, the Acting Provincial Director of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (PPO), PCOL CHARLES L DOMALLIG, hosted the dialogue on the restoration of peace pact held at the Dap-ay Hall, Camp Captain Juan M Duyan, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga on October 12, 2022.
The Kalinga PPO in coordination with the Kalinga Local Government Unit (LGU) invited the two tribal representatives to discuss the possible common ground to start negotiations on the disputed boundary.
The negotiation was presided over by the Kalinga Bodong Council of Elders Chairperson, Mr. Johnny Maymaya.
During the dialogue, both tribes brought out their sentiments and demands regarding the issues on their boundary dispute.
The said dialogue was part of the continuous endeavor of the PNP to help both tribes attain lasting peace.
Meanwhile, PCOL DOMALLIG appealed to the members of both tribes to exert efforts to avoid hostilities until the Betwagan-Bugnay boundary dispute is finally resolved and reassured the PNP’s assistance for both tribes to maintain peace and order in their respective localities.
The meeting concluded with high hopes of resolving the longstanding conflict between Betwagan and Bugnay-Butbut. (PROCOR-PIO / File Photos)
