Irisan public school teacher commended
City officials recently congratulated and commended Alfredo L. Rufino, a public school teacher of the Irisan National High School, for his zealous commitment to uphold the values of honesty and uprightness as manifested by his noble act of returning the wallet to its rightful owner last March 11, 2024, making him worthy to be emulated by all city residents and Cordillerans, including public servants, and be recognized by the local government.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that through Rufino’s noble action, it has uplifted the dignity and morale of the Cordillerans and has shown to the world that the people of the region have a strong sense of integrity.
The council stipulated that Rufino, a public school teacher of the Irisan National High School, is commendable for his zealous dedication and unwavering commitment to his values and sworn duties as a public servant through his good deed to others and prioritizing virtues over self interest as manifested in his act of returning a lost wallet to its rightful owner.
On March 11, 2024, Rufino found a wallet intact with a huge sum of money, government issued identification cards, automated teller machine (ATM) cards and receipts inside a taxi he rode on and without any bit of hesitation, consciously decided to immediately call the owner, Atty. Eugenio A. Insigne, and informed him that he found his wallet inside the taxi he rode in.
He was then instructed to return the lost wallet to the Office of Councilor Fred Bagbagen, who is his close friend at the city hall and to get P1,000 from the said wallet.
Rufino as instructed delivered the wallet to the aforesaid office despite the fact of hardship of being a public school teacher and was not tested for any conceivable need to benefit from the said material possession.
The council claimed that Atty. Insigne insisted on giving him a cash reward but Rufino refused to accept the said officer.
The council pointed out that Rufino’s noble deed is worthy of commendation and public emulation as it is a testament to every Cordilleran’s steadfast dedication to righteousness, altruism and social justice.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Rufino and the administration of the Irisan National High School for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. – Dexter A. See
