Indigenous Games is a highlight of the celebration of 1st Indigenous Peoples Day in Sagada

Sagada, Mt. Province – The indigenous games were held in the municipality of Sagada, participated by the LGU, Association of Senior Citizens, Northern Zone, Eastern Zone, Central Zone, South-Central Zone, and Southern Zone united in the Indigenous Games which are the highlights of the celebration of the 1st Indigenous Peoples Day on October 28, 2022, in Poblacion, Sagada.

You can see the joy on the faces of guests and participants as they begin the Indigenous games.

The native games are as follows; Ag-Agto (women), Binuligan (Men), Akad-akad o Kadang-Kadang, Ginuyudan (Tug-of-War), Depap Di Beteg (Men), Depap Di Pato (Women), Proper wearing of Gatieng, Proper wearing of Wanes, Dangpil, Sanggol for men and women and Tolsi.

Due to today’s digital age, modern technologies such as gadgets and cell phones are widespread and you will definitely be entertained by social media that you can watch through a cellphone.

In an interview with Mayor Felicito Dula, “Idinidiin pa rin natin itinuturo sa mga bata ang mga katutubong laro para hindi pa rin nila ito makalimutan.

“Kaya nga na ang highlight ng celebration na ito ay ang mga laro ng sinaunang katutubo para hindi lamang mga gadget ang kanilang nilalaro at least mabalikan naman nila yun mga laro ng mga ninuno at para at least malaman nila na sila ay bilang Igorot na paglabas nila ay hindi sila tatawagin na mga taga-lowlands na parang mahiya na sila magsabi na hindi na sila proud na Igorot.

“Kaya ang hangad ng mga matatanda na sana makapag-aral at makatapos ng pag-aaral at kung makapag trabaho man sa ibang bansa ay at least dala pa rin nila ang kanilang kultura at tradisyon,” Mayor Dula concluded  # Photos by: Mario Oclaman // FNS
