Improved quality of taxi units, services sought

City officials recently encouraged taxi operators and drivers in the city and the City Tourism Office for the upgrade and improvement of the quality of taxi units and their services to enhance tourism and pride of the city.

Under Resolution No. 546, series of 2023, local legislators stated there is a need to remind, guide and help taxi operators and drivers of their continuous quality taxi units and services, including strict compliance with all traffic laws, rules and regulations to ensure the safety of their passengers.

During the Senior Citizens Office for a Day (SCOFAD) held on October 17, 2022, the SCOFAD council adopted the proposal of SCOFAD Councilor Ursula Alpha B. Dao-ey that called on the upgrading of taxis and drivers to enhance tourism and pride in the city.

The council added that the city takes pride of being a favorite regular and daily tourist destination for local and foreign travelers.

Further, as a small city beset with traffic and parking problems, measures to mitigate the situation have been established which include requesting tourists to park their private vehicles and to use the regular public transportations available in the city.

However, the council claimed that most of the available public transportations in the city like taxi cabs are not allegedly upgraded and these are dilapidated with peeling paints, unkempt seats with holes, dirty floors, and non-functioning windows which make a very uncomfortable ride, and such inconvenience is aggravated by some unkempt drivers and who are not even familiar with the various routes and places in the city, not conversant with various tourist sites, the city’s culture and tradition and discourteous, among others.
