History Month in the City, 11th General Assembly and 2024 National Conference on Local History and Heritage to cap off the August celebration

Makati, Philippines – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will be convening members of the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) this year in celebration of History Month from August 28 to 30.

The NCHP chair Prof. Regalado Trota Jose Jr would give a message and introduce the keynote speaker Dr. Jose Eleazar Bersales, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) National Committee on Museums head. The sessions are well-prepared and put up such as the Public History through the house and local museums in Southeast Asia, heritage conservation practices in the Philippines, challenges and opportunities in Philippine Heritage, innovations and prospects in Philippine local history and heritage.

Session one has been gathered by the Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP) represented by its Executive Director Dr. Maria Serena Diokno. The next session is collated by the International Council on Monuments and Sites Philippines (ICOMOS) Philippines. Dr. Laya Boquiren-Gonzales will be the moderator of the session. As part of day 1, there would be a guided tour at the Ayala Museum, conference socials, and the awarding of Dangal ng Kasaysayang Lokal spearheaded by the NCCA National Committee on Historical Research.

In the third session by Day 2, NHCP has put together speakers from Taytay, Rizal; the Heritage Collective; UNESCO; Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo; Ramon Aboitiz Foundation; Valenzuela Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office. The last session is jointly organized by the Ayala Museum and NHCP involving innovations and best practices of local heritage and history.

NHCP deputy director Mr. Alvin Alcid will be announcing the 2025 History Month theme and host of the next general assembly of LHCN and the 2025 National Conference on Local History and Heritage. (PR)
