Fire Prevention Month observance kicks off

Fire Prevention Month observance kicked off in the city on March 1, 2023 with the theme, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-Iisa.”

A motorcade and program opened the celebration spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection Cordillera Region, Baguio City Fire Station, BFP Irisan, BFP Itogon, La Trinidad District Jail-FD, Highway Patrol Group, Baguio City Jail – Male Dorm, 911 on Call, Sablan Fire Station, Baguio City, Tublay Fire Station, Tuba Fire Station, Sunshine Fire Volunteers, SM Baguio City, Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loan Association Inc. (AFPSLAI), the Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal (OPFM) Benguet, Baguio Water District, John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), Professional Regulation Commission Baguio Chapter, The Office of Civil Defense Cordillera (OCD CAR) , National Police Commission (Napolcom), Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)  and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology CAR.

Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Cordillera Director and Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDDRMC) Chairperson Albert Mogol served as guest of honor and speaker.

Mogol emphasized the need for a whole-of-a-society action in the mitigation, prevention, and avoidance of fire incidents in the region and in the country.

Fire Director (FDIR) Louie Puraca, CEO VI represented by Director for Human Resource Development CSupt. Leonida Gumanab-Rosales also stressed that awareness and consciousness remains to be paramount in preventing fire and preserving lives and properties.

For the whole month of March, activities will be conducted devoted to promoting life-saving practices and fire safety education to enhance people’s awareness on fire prevention measures.

The BFP will hold a Fire Prevention Month Kick-Off and Fire Square Road Show in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet this March in conjunction with their January program “One Stop Shop” which inspects establishments to ensure they have fire safety features.

They will work with local government units up to the barangay level to upgrade their rescuing skills and putting out fires.

Information dissemination campaign of providing detailed information on fire prevention via leaflets, posters and social media will also continue. – Grian Villanueva, Manette Agbunag, and Janthrize Andanan
