Events lined up for National Disability Rights Week

The city government lined up various events to celebrate the National Disability Rights Week from July 16-23, 2024.

Last Tuesday, the city formally launched the celebration during the regular flag raising ceremony held at the city hall grounds with the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) at the helm of the celebration.

The celebration started with the conduct of the PWD Sensitivity Seminar followed by the meeting of the members of the Local Council on Disability Affairs to tackle the organization of the body last July 16, 2024.

Beneficiaries were able to receive their livelihood assistance and first aid kits which were distributed during the event followed by an art contest on July 17, 2024.

Participants also joined the Disability Rights-based Laws Seminar conducted on July 18, 2024 purposely to ensure awareness on the laws governing the rights of persons with disability among others.

On July 19, 2024, the Search for Mr. and Ms. National Disability Rights Week will be held to look for talents in the PWD sector.

The celebration will be capped with an Essay Writing Contest on July 23, 2024 where interested PWDs will showcase their writing skills in discussing pressing issues and concerns besetting the PWD sector.

Proclamation No. 597 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. declared July 16-23, 2024 as National Disability Rights Week in the country and that the celebration will be done every year. Dexter A. See
