Dengue cases seen to drop further at year’s end
Proficient city and barangay level leadership and monitoring against the mosquito-borne disease; regular community-based clean-ups; Oplan Taob and constant reminders to residents are seen to lead to further decreased Dengue cases, up to the end of this year.
The role of health, medical authorities and volunteers in anti-Dengue activities cannot also be disregarded.
Said data and details were presented by Baguio City Health Services Office (CHSO) assistant head Dr. Celia Brillantes during last weeks’ management committee meeting, with Mayor Benjamin Magalong and city executives present. The report focused on Dengue cases, with a population of 3,276 from Jan. to end of Nov. 2022; seen as mortality week (MW) 1 to 46.
From the presentation, a cyclical pattern is discernible for the whole year, from a nearly flat line from MW 1 to 17, a slow rise to MW 23, a sudden rise of cases on MW 24 which stayed up to MW 28 and another surge on MW 29.
There was a slow decrease up to MW 33, and another rise on MW 34 and 38; with slight fluctuations up to MW 46.
To follow the cyclical pattern which was observed last year and for the past five years, the cases slow down with an observable uptick on MW 49 and a decrease up to the end of this year.
In Dr. Brillantes’ report, the highest Dengue cases for males are seen in 10 to 19 y/o followed by those in the 20 to 29 y/o bracket, and the less than 10 y/o. Other age brackets have less number of cases.
For the females, 20 to 29 year olds have the highest Dengue cases, followed by the 10 to 19 year olds. Those in the 30 to 39 year old bracket and less than 10 years old have nearly the same number of cases, followed by a lesser number of cases for the 40 to 49, 50 to 59; and 60 y/o and older.
At present, barangays with the highest number of new cases are Irisan (271), Bakakeng Norte (157), Camp 7 (146), Loakan proper (137), San Luis Village (128), Bakakeng Central (128), Asin road (127), Kias (90), Gibraltar (76), SLU-SVP housing village (74).
Barangays with only one case each are: West Modernsite, Middle Quezon Hill, Malcolm Square-Perfecto, Kayang Hilltop, Kabayanihan, Happy homes Old Lucban, Fairview Village, Engrs. Hill, Alfonso Tabora.
More updates on Dengue cases are expected soon. – JGFianza
