Dengue cases decrease further, barangays with clustered cases lessen
The number of Dengue cases in the city dropped further, as with the number barangays having clustered cases lessened; from 23 in the past week to 19 this week.
This was reported by Baguio City Health Services Office (BCHSO) head Dr. Rowena Galpo during the management committee meeting last Tuesday morning at city hall. The meeting was attended by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, City Administrator Engr. Bonifacio dela Pena, department heads and other concerned officials and employees.
From Nov. 8 to 14, there were 3,246 cases with 49 new cases and five deaths. During the same period last year, there were 1,185 cases with 9 deaths.
Dr. Galpo expressed high hopes that Dengue season will soon be over. As to the observed cyclical pattern for Dengue cases, a minuscule increase happens with a downward trend and a flat no-increase towards the last three weeks of the year. It has been observed last year and recurred for the past five years, Dr. Galpo earlier said.
For the past months, the local government unit, health authorities and barangay officials, residents and volunteers worked hard on mitigating measures to keep the mosquito-borne illness at bay. Simultaneous and regular clean-ups were done, oplan Taob for water-collecting receptacle, and unattended rubber tires were collected. Reminders were also done for residents to keep their household and surroundings clean. – JGFianza
