CSWDO continues to help drug users and rescue mendicants

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) under acting head Liza Bulayungan continues to work with partner agencies and faith-based groups in implementing the Integrated Participatory Community Building Program (IPCBP) for persons who use drugs or PWUDs.

CSWDO administrative officer IV Nestor Mestito, in Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall, April 25, said 158 PWUDs religiously attended life skills sessions and other activities for their eventual rehabilitation.

He added that anti-mendicancy rescue and monitoring activities especially at the central business district are being regularly conducted in partnership with the Baguio City Police Office and Public Order and Safety Division.

“Mendicants are still visible in the streets begging and putting themselves at risk of the (Covid-19) virus and accidents aside from violating the anti-mendicancy law,” Mestito said.

He said the mendicants were provided with task-oriented counseling, family food packs and other services while some were turned-over and referred to other local government units for provision of services.-Gaby B. Keith
