Council declared March 27 – April 1 as Wellness, Longevity Week in city

City officials recently declared the period March 27 to April 1, 2023 as the Wellness and Longevity Week in the city.

Under Resolution No. 142, series of 2023, city legislators stated that the lined up activities during the said period shall enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals by traditional and alternative way.

The council added that the week-long event will raise awareness on the legitimacy and effectiveness of herbal medicines and traditional practices that promote wellness and longevity.

Republic Act (RA) 8423, otherwise known as the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997, aims to promote and advocate the use of traditional, alternative, preventive and curative health care modalities that have been proven safe, effective, cost-effective and consistent with government standards on medical practice.

Further, the said law is in consonance with the policy of the State to improve the quality and delivery of health care services to the Filipino people through the development of traditional and alternative health care and its integration into the national health care delivery system.

The council stipulated that a wellness and longevity summit and expo will be organized by the IKIGAI Blue Zone Wellness and Longevity Movement which will focus on increasing the awareness of individuals and families on the natural way of preventing illnesses and maintaining the physical, mental and social wellness through the practice of traditional and alternative ways to compliment the regular medicine practices.

The summit and expo with the theme “Live Healthier, Live Happier, Live Longer’ will be held at the Baguio Convention Center starting March 27, 2023 with a pre-summit wellness walk from the Panagbenga Park and ending at the Baguio City Hall in time for the flag-raising ceremony.

Moreover, various activities include jump role tutorial and competition, Tai Chi demonstrations, phototherapy and amateur photography.

A workshop on topics like mental awareness, pain management, Philippine herbs as medicines, holistic energy healing, nutritious plant-based meals, simple meditation and the like, shall be discussed by prominent doctors of integrative medicine during the culminating activity on April 1, 2023 at the Baguio convention Center.

Traditional and alternative health care is defined as the sum total of knowledge, skills and practices on health care, other than those embodied in bio-medicine, used in the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of physical or mental disorders. – Dexter A. See
