Consultation with Women with disabilities slated

The local government will be conducting a consultation with women with disabilities on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the city hall multipurpose hall to ensure equal access of the said sector to health services, education, training and employment and protection from sexual and other forms of abuses.               

Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDEAO) head Samuel Aquino disclosed that some 25 women with disabilities will be attending the said activity to grow the involvement of the said sector in the national and local development and for them to have greater awareness of their rights and privileges.              

Further, he claimed that the consultation will bring to the fore the consciousness on the role of women with disabilities in society to make them visible.               

He stipulated that the activity will also help the public appreciate the equal access of women with disabilities to the services and programs leading towards their overall development.               

The State is mandated to protect working women by providing safe and healthful working conditions, taking into account their maternal functions, and such facilities and opportunities that will enhance their welfare and enable them to realize their full potential in the service of the nation.             

According to him, the 25 leaders of women with disabilities will craft strategic plans for their interest and welfare as well as their concerns, issues and challenges being a woman with disabilities.

On March 28, the women with disabilities will be undergoing a seminar on reproductive health and violence against women and children to enhance their awareness on the pressing issues and concerns confronting their reproductive health and their potential exposure to abuses. – Dexter A. See
