Completion of school building project pressed

City officials recently requested the Department of Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR) to fast track the completion of the requirements for the implementation of the project, Basic Educational Facilities–Batch 1, construction of four-storey, eight-classroom school building at the Baguio Central School in time for the opening of classes on July 29, 2024.

Under Resolution No. 398, series of 2024, the construction and restoration of the said school building has been earlier suspended due to reported lack of a building permit and the required conservation plan by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO).

Earlier, the body invited the CPDO, the DepEd-CAR, the principal of the Baguio Central School and the contractor regarding the restoration work being conducted at the Baguio Central School.

Baguio Central School is one of the largest public elementary schools in the city that was founded in 1899 where some of its buildings have been declared as heritage structures.

The council also stipulated for DepEd-CAR to submit to the body a copy of the modified plan on the restoration of the Baguio Central School, its minutes of the meeting with the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA), and other pertinent documents for information and appropriate legislative measure.

Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the DepEd-Car for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. Dexter A. See
