Community-based monitoring system preliminary results out soon
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has deemed the two-month 2021 Pilot CBMS for nine areas in the country a success.
The simultaneous data collection was done from October 4 to December 2021; in Baguio City; Sual, Pangasinan; San Gabriel, La Union; Santa Maria, Isabela; Samal, Bataan; City of Sipalay, Negros Occidental; Dauin, Negros Oriental; City of Baybay, Leyte; and City of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur.
Data collectors made use of the Paper and Pencil, and Computer-Assisted Personal Interview from household heads, the PSA stated.
In Baguio, the progression of the 28 barangaysโ population is evident in listings from 2015: 89,987 households with a population of 342,250; and in 2020, there were 100,220 households with 363,151 inhabitants. The growth rate is pegged at 1.25, data shows.
There were 595 enumeration areas for the cityโs 129 barangays; validation is ongoing, as to information from the City Planning and Development Office, CBMSโ implementor.
Disaggregated data on income, education, services provided and available for the population, governance, infrastructure and other important details is forthcoming.
CBMS is a diagnostic tool to assess poverty in the barangay, city/municipality and provincial level. The collected data is valuable as it provides policymakers and program implementors information for local planning and budget.
Data collection is implemented for the LGU, the national government, Non-Government Organization (NGO) and the Civil Society Organizations, with the collated information used in decision-making, design of policies, targeting of beneficiaries, comprehensive poverty and needs prioritization, and monitoring. – JGF
