CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela– In pursuit of enticing the youth to exercise their right to vote, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of Region 2 conducted ‘Register Anywhere Program’ (RAP) in Isabela State University-Cauayan Campus on May 7 at the University Gymnasium. More or less 300 college students attended the activity and benefited from the Lecture on Registration and Voter Education.
Atty. Manuel J. Castillo, Jr., the provincial election supervisor of Isabela in an exclusive interview conducted by FNS said that they are giving special attention to the students because they are aware that most of them were not able to register due to their busy schedule in their studies. Addressing the situation, they brought the services to the campus and conducted registration through the RAP. Forty percent of the voting population of Isabela is composed of youths.
RAP was launched in the City of Ilagan recently. Castillo said the turn-out was low but they are doubling their efforts to disseminate the information.
Castillo is eyeing to conduct the same activity in ISU-Echague Campus but there is no specific target schedule yet as he is considering the high temperature that suspends the face-to-face classes.
The national rollout of the RAP intends to offer more channels and chances for voter registration in areas with greater pedestrian traffic and gatherings of individuals who are eligible to vote. It is scheduled to end on August 13 while voter registration will last until September 30 this year.# Mae Barangan//FNS
