City recognizes Book 1 of cultural mapping project
Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed city council resolution no. 242, series of 2023, recognizing Book 1 of the implemented Cultural Mapping Project as the Summer Capital’s official local cultural inventory in the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property.
Aligned with the city government’s desire to preserve and promote its cultural heritage, the local legislature through resolution no. 66, series of 2023, has adopted Book I of the implemented Cultural Mapping Project in the City of Baguio and endorsed the same to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the measure stated.
Copies of the approved resolution are also to be forwarded to the NCCA and other offices concerned for their information.
Book 1 contains around 216 documentations of the city’s identified cultural properties and classified into six categories including tangible immovable heritage with 77 sites; tangible movable heritage with 28 sites; intangible cultural heritage with 48; natural heritage with 42; significant personalities with five, and cultural institutions with 16 sites.
The project was spearheaded by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) under Arch. Donna Tabangin in collaboration with specialists from the NCCA and others.
She said it aims to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding living heritage, both tangible and intangible, and assist the city government in determining its direction in preserving cultural heritage. – Gaby B. Keith
