City recognizes Baguio Women’s Arnis Team
City officials commended and congratulated the Baguio women’s arnis team who emerged victorious during the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Women’s Martial Arts Festival held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila last November 15, 2022.
In a resolution, city legislators stipulated it is with great pride and joy that the city’s people and officialdom confer the commendation to the Baguio-based arnis athletes who proudly represented the city during the PSC Women’s Marital Festival held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila late last year.
The city delegates snatched 2 gold, 3 silver and 12 bronze medals during the said competition.
Among the victorious athletes include Angelyn A. Datuin gold medalist in the individual non-traditional – single weapon 18-39 years old category and bronze medalist in the synchronized traditional – sword dagger mixed age category; Izy Zyrell M. Pobletin – gold medalist in the synchronized non-traditional – sword dagger mixed age category and silver medalist in both the individual non-traditional – single weapon and individual non-traditional double weapon 15-17 years old categories; Marion Q. Lopez – gold medalist in the synchronized non-traditional – sword dagger mixed age category and silver medalist in the individual traditional – double weapon 15-17 years old category; Khloei S. Directo – gold medalist in the synchronized non-traditional – sword dagger mixed age category and bronze medalist in the individual traditional – double weapon 15-17 years old category; Claryss Coltiyen – bronze medalist in both the individual traditional – single weapon 15-17 years old and individual non-traditional – single weapon 15-17 years old categories; Claire Roque – bronze medalist in the individual traditional – single weapon 18-39 years old category; Winona Packoy – bronze medalist in the individual traditional – single weapon 18-39 years old category; Pauline D. Avillanoza – bronze medalist in both the individual non-traditional – single weapon 18-39 years old and the individual non-traditional – double weapon 18-39 years old categories; Edelyn Aghan – bronze medalist in both the individual traditional – double weapon 18-39 years old and synchronized traditional – sword dagger mixed age categories; Christine Mae Bartolome – bronze medalist in both the individual non-traditional – double weapon 18-39 years old and synchronized traditional – sword dagger mixed age categories; Kharie Cobcobo – bronze medalist in the individual traditional – double weapon 18-39 years old category and Chloe Villanueva – bronze medalist in the individual traditional – single weapon 15-17 years old category and 5th place in the individual – traditional – double weapon 15-17 years old category.
The coaches of the Baguio women’s arnis team are Ruth Ann P. Lavarias for the juniors team and Andre Dean P. Foman-eg for the seniors team.
The council pointed out that the outstanding performances of the city’s athletes with the supervision of their coaches and support from their families have portrayed unquestionable discipline and sports excellence perfected through years of training and dedication that serves as inspiration for the whole country and are worthy of emulation to the people, especially the youth. – Dexter A.
