City prepares for second National Vaccination Days

Preparations are ongoing for the second series of Bayanihan, Bakunahan, National Vaccination Days (NVD) on Dec. 15, 16 and 17.

This was reported by Baguio City Health Services Office (CHSO) head Dr. Rowena Galpo during the city executives’ management committee meeting Tuesday, Dec. 7.

According to Dr. Galpo, as of Dec. 05; there are 14,229 registered but unvaccinated individuals from the city’s 16 health districts who need to have their first dose, either before or on the three-day NVD part II.  At least 4,743 vaccinees each day for three days would fulfill the city’s target for the identified group.

There are also 5,147 individuals who missed their second dose; with 1,716 vaccines to be jabbed each day for three days. A total of 19,376; (first and second doses) need to be administered, Dr. Galpo reported.

For second doses compliant to recommended intervals between first and second doses, a total of 3,165 should be jabbed; 1,113 on the first day, 808 and 1,244 for the first and second days on NVD II.

For the city’s adolescents or 12 to 17 year olds with population pegged at 42,811; there is a difference if the target for herd immunity is at 80% or the whole of the population. If the city conforms to a 100% herd immunity, 14,635 doses need to be administered at 4,878 per day for three days; while at 80% immunity, 6,073; or 2,024 youngsters should line up for jabs each day, during the three-day NVD II.

The numbers of vaccinees would vary from 9,291 to 12,581 targets each day, for three days.

Vaccine inventory as of Dec. 6 show that there are 58,788 first and second dose vaccines of Sinovac, Astrazeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Gamaleya brands ready to be administered, Dr. Galpo disclosed.

The NVD part II would employ the same whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach, with a national target of 8.4M doses to be administered.

Accordingly, a simultaneous nationwide rollout shall be done, with the foremost target on areas with the highest number of individuals with zero dose. As per target population, there are 21.7M individuals with zero doses, while as of Dec. 1, 54M had their first dose and 18M awaiting their second dose.

As for NVD I done last Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1, Dr Galpo reported of the city’s significant contribution of 21,176 which is 37.62% of the 56,288 target. From the 21,176 vaccinees; 9,981 first doses, 8,777 second doses and 2,418 booster shots were administered.

Based on the Department of Health regional target of 262,185, the city (with a target of 281,00) has first dosed 116.57% and fully vaccinated 97.17%. There were also 730 non-residents who had their jabs in the Baguio vaccine sites, Dr. Galpo’s report revealed.
The city is expected to surpass or replicate NVD I’s accomplishment on NVD II; Dec. 15, 16 and 17. –  Julie G. Fianza
