City okays opening of peace center checking account

The city council passed resolution no. 282, series of 2024, approving the request of Mayor Benjamin Magalong for authority to open a checking account with the Land Bank of the Philippines under the account name LGU Baguio City PAMANA to facilitate the smooth operation and management of the PAMANA Peace Training Center in accordance with sections 309(B) and 310 of the Local Government Code of 1991, as amended.

The PAMANA Peace Training Center will serve as a venue for various peace-building activities, workshops, and training programs aimed at promoting understanding, reconciliation, and conflict resolution among different sectors in the community, the measure stated.

To effectively fulfill its mandate, the Center requires a dedicated financial account that will manage and disburse funds allocated for the construction of the building which will come from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).

The resolution stated that having a separate account will also ensure the transparency and accountability in the utilization of these funds in accordance with the principles of good governance. – Gaby B. Keith
