City mourns passing of principal; lauds her heroic act

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 775, series of 2023, expressing the city’s deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late school principal Dr. Brigette Y. Galong and commending her heroic act of saving a drowning child, an act of selflessness that led to her untimely death.
The school principal of Bakakeng Elementary School, Galong, who was born on December 26, 1968 in Bokod, Benguet, dedicated her life to education, leaving an indelible mark on the school and lives of countless students, the measure stated.
It disclosed that her life was cut short on December 8, 2023, when in a selfless act of heroism, she sacrificed her safety to save a drowning child in Bauang, La Union.
“Galong’s bravery and compassion exemplify the values she instilled in the school community throughout her tenure,” the resolution stressed.
She rose to the rank of school principal of Bakakeng Elementary School on August 10, 2015, a position she held with distinction until the time of her untimely demise.
“As a respected educator, Dr. Galong profoundly touched the lives of thousands of learners, sharing not only knowledge but also imparting invaluable skills and values. Her teachings, deeply ingrained in the young minds she nurtured, serve as a cornerstone for their personal growth and development,” the measure stated.
It added: “Her legacy as an educator, mentor, and leader will forever resonate within the halls of the institution she served. Galong’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of the students’ lives and her profound impact on the education system will be remembered with deep gratitude and respect.”
“May her memory inspire the people of the City of Baguio to emulate the dedication and kindness she embodied, and may her family find comfort in the knowledge that her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched,” the measure stated. – Gaby B. Keith
