City mourns demise of legal luminary

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 320, series of 2024, expressing the city’s deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late lawyer Antonio A. Espiritu and extending appreciation for his invaluable contributions to the Summer Capital. He passed away on May 11, this year, at 80.

Hailing from Bakakeng Norte/Sur, here, he was an esteemed professor at the Saint Louis University-College of Law, an active member of the Baguio Chrysanthemum and Baguio Pines City Lions Clubs District 301-C Northern Philippines where he spent much of his free time delivering services and aid to different areas mostly in the Cordillera region.

Atty. Espiritu also served as legal counsel of the Baguio Water District from 1977 to 1995; as a board member from 1995 to 1996 and 2002 to 2003; vice-chairman from 1997 to 1998 and 2004 to 2005; and chairman of the board from 1998 to 2001 and 2005 to 2006.

“The passing of Atty. Antonio Espiritu, whose memory and legacy will be cherished by those who knew him and the community he served so diligently, is a great loss to the city of Baguio,” the measure stated. – Gaby B. Keith
