City lines up events for nat’l disability prevention, rehabilitation week

The city government lined up a number of events for the city’s celebration of the 45th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17-20, 2023.

Samuel Aquino of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), said that this year’s theme of the celebration is ‘Persons with Disabilities Accessibility and rights: Towards a Sustainable Future Where No One is Left Behind.’

The city lined up the various activities in partnership with the different stakeholders, especially the advocates of the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The formal opening of the NDPR Week celebration will start with the unfurling of the calendar of activities during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds followed by the ribbon cutting of the ‘Arts and Product Exhibit’ at the City Hall lobby.

The arts will be provided by the St. John Paul II Learning center while the products will be made available by Touch Movers among other PWD groups. The body massage will be provided by the Aurora Livelihood Program and Holistic Association.

On July 18, 2023, there will be a Play Day for children which will be held at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) that will be spearheaded by the St. John Paul II Learning Center and SPED Center supported by the city barangays.

On the same day, there will also be a booth for hygiene lecture and the registration for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) Konsulta Package and urine examination for PWDs that will be conducted at the City Health Services Office.

On July 19, 2023, there will be lectures on stress management, understanding psycho-social assessment process, benefits and privileges of PWDs and basic sign language which will be held at the City Hall multipurpose hall. The lecturers will come from the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHS) in the Cordillera and the PDAO.

The talent competition among PWDs will be held on July 20, 203 at the City Hall grounds where PWDs will showcase their respective talents in singing, dancing among others.

Aquino disclosed that more than 100 PWDs from different associations will be joining this competition to help in advocating the active participation of PWDs in various activities of the local government, concerned government agencies and the private sector. – Dexter A. See
