City lauds cooperatives, individuals in ‘Binnadang’ efforts

The City Council, during last Monday’s regular session, commended the various cooperatives and the individual personalities based in the city who have rendered support and assistance in the spirit of ‘binnadang’ to the Abra earthquake victims.

In a resolution, local legislators pointed out that the generous act of the cooperatives and individuals shows the indomitable and unbroken spirit of ‘bayanihan’ or ‘binnadang,’ especially during trying and difficult times such as in the case of the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck most parts of Northern Luzon, particularly Abra and the Ilocos provinces last July 27, 2022, at around 8:43 am.

The earthquake’s epicenter was said to be around 3 kilometers northwest of Tayum, Abra and had a depth of 17 kilometers.

Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total of 48,477 across the Cordillera and Ilocos regions were displaced following the strong earthquake that struck Abra.

Further, agriculture infrastructure was also damaged, such as irrigation systems, farm to market roads and farm structures.

Subsequently, the Baguio-based cooperatives have pooled their resources to give assistance to those that were affected by the earthquake through the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ or ‘binnadang.’ The cooperatives channeled the said assistance to the Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (ADTEMPCO) where such assistance were distributed to the earthquake victims in Abra.

Among the various cooperatives that participated in the said endeavor included the Cooperative Union of Baguio city and Luzon; Cooperative Bank of Benguet; One Loyalty Lending; Baguio Family and Friends Lion’s Club, BAVESCO Multipurpose Cooperative, Baguio City Multipurpose Cooperative, BAMAPOCOM Entrepreneurs’ Multipurpose Cooperative, Guisad Multipurpose Cooperative, JERM Family and Friends Consumers Cooperative, Libo-o Transport Cooperative, Printing and Publishing Multipurpose Cooperative, San Vicente Multipurpose Cooperative, Timber and Lime Multipurpose Cooperative, Trusted BLISTT Alliance of Transport and ADTEMPCO.

On the other hand, the individuals and personalities who made the undertaking possible were Susan Angaga, Angelita Gayados, Ralph Eduardo Yambao and Mr. and Mrs. Alberto Mariano. – Dexter A. See
