City lauds Baguio artist for victory in international arts stint
Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 30, series of 2022, congratulating and commending Jefferson R. Coronado for garnering multiple awards in the 25th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held on July 22 to 30 this year at Disneyland, Anaheim, California, USA.
He won a gold medal in the WCOPA broadway category; gold medal in the original work category; bronze medal in the group production category (with Team Philippines); and a semi-finalist pin.
The measure states that Coronado is a true-blue Baguio boy and resident of Hillside barangay. He is an alumnus of the Saint Louis University-Glee Club and a vocalist of Deja vu, a premier pop/jazz band in the Summer Capital.
WCOPA is the only premier international competition that provides accurate and professional Hollywood Entertainment industry training and experience. It is an innovative and official ‘World Talent Contest’ with esteemed entertainment industry professionals invited to judge, conduct seminars and sign talent.
Team Philippines, including Coronado, competed against 64 countries and thousands of acts and were given the chance of undergoing training in different agencies all over the United States.
Coronado, a resident artist of Harana ph, was selected to be in the cast of Miss Saigon-Guam in September 2022 and is also a member of the local theater group, Open Space Projects, and works as a performer and host in his spare time.
“With such world-class and top-brass accolades, it is just but fitting and proper to award this commendation to Jefferson Coronado for his excellent achievement that has brought pride and glory to the City of Baguio,” the resolution states. – Gaby B. Keith
