City joins observance of Nat’l Disability Prevention, Rehabilitation Week
The city will be joining the observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with simple but meaningful activities which were already completed and will be conducted.
Samuel Aquino, head of the city’s Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), stated that the local government closely coordinated and collaborated with the various national agencies and certain local governments to observe the important week for the PWDs.
Last July 7, 2022, the PDAO and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) extended livelihood assistance amounting to P15,000 each to the 200 persons with visual impairment. The fund for the said livelihood assistance was downloaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that came from the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
On July 8, 2022, the PDAO and the Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR) conducted a consultative meeting with concerned stakeholders to thresh out various issues and concerns of PWDs. The said consultation was attended by representatives from other nearby local governments in Benguet like La Trinidad, tuba, Tublay and the provincial government.
On July 13, 2022, PDAO and SM Cares conducted the emergency preparedness training at the Cinema 4 as part of the information and education efforts of the concerned government agencies and local government on disaster preparedness.
On July 21, 2022, the PDAO and DOH-Car will be conducting an orientation on the creation of PDAO and its mandates while the PDAO and the Police ‘Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera will have a community encounter with 100 schoolchildren with disabilities at the Baguio Convention Center on July 25, 2022.The same will also be a venue for the medical and dental mission of St, John Paul Ii Center, Special Education (SPED) Center Baguio and Easter SPED. – Dexter A.
