City holds 2-day eco-waste and sustainability expo
To generate more responses, encourage greater private sector participation and disseminate information to the grassroots as to solid waste management, the city holds an eco-waste and sustainability expo on Sept. 2 and 3 at the People’s Park, Malcolm Square.
The activity is also part of Baguio’s 114th charter anniversary celebration with the theme; “Reflections of the Past, Visions for a Resilient Future.”
The local government unit through the General Services Office (GSO) headed by Eugene Buyucan and City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) led by Atty. Rhenan Diwas, in partnership with the Council Committee on Health and Sanitation, Ecology and Environmental Protection, Zero Waste Baguio, Tingi Station, Department of Education (Dep-Ed) and other agencies endeavors to share ideas, eco-friendly practices and practical tips to help lessen the city’s waste problems, through the activity.
Booths shall be at the venue, with exhibitors including local businesses, government agencies, to showcase products, services and daily-living practical tips. Resource persons shall also be available to share their expertise, as the main endeavor is environmental awareness, behavioral and habit change, education and more efforts on solving the city’s solid waste problems.
Demonstrations are available at the venue, such as waste segregation, recycling/upcycling, and arts and crafts from waste products. Childrens activities such as storytelling sessions, shall also be done.
It is expected that economic opportunities, partnerships and collaborations are created through the activity. – JGF
